00:00:03.048 --> 00:00:08.798
Hello and welcome to The Bearded Mystic Podcast and I'm your host Rahul N Singh.

00:00:09.089 --> 00:00:14.342
Thank you for taking out the time today to either watch or listen to this podcast episode.

00:00:14.592 --> 00:00:20.551
Today, we'll be looking at a new series that we're starting, which is the Wisdom of the Mystics.

00:00:20.631 --> 00:00:28.350
We are beginning this series with the mystic Osho, also known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.

00:00:28.670 --> 00:00:37.054
We'd be looking at some quotes of his today and going a bit deeper into what do they mean and are they still relevant today in our day and age.

00:00:37.200 --> 00:00:43.735
And what can we understand from this great mystic who has been a great influence on my life.

00:00:43.985 --> 00:00:54.386

00:00:54.606 --> 00:00:58.926
Let's begin with the wisdom of this Mystic - Osho.

00:00:59.143 --> 00:01:11.855
The quote says, try to understand the ego, analyze it, dissect it, watch it, observe it from as many angles as possible, and don't be in a hurry to sacrifice it.

00:01:12.105 --> 00:01:14.626
Otherwise, the greatest egoist is born.

00:01:14.876 --> 00:01:16.786
The person who thinks he is humble.

00:01:16.965 --> 00:01:26.085
The person who thinks that he has no ego, the subtle ego goes on playing such games, that it is very difficult.

00:01:26.335 --> 00:01:29.396
One will need absolute awareness to watch it.

00:01:29.646 --> 00:01:40.073
So what this is describing is what the ego is, and how it's very easy when we say that we have no ego, we think automatically we are very humble.

00:01:40.323 --> 00:01:48.433
Oh, we have no pride or we have no selfish motive, but this is not necessarily true and this is what Osho is talking about.

00:01:48.433 --> 00:01:57.463
That the subtle game of the ego is now played and the subtle ego in fact is far more difficult to remove.

00:01:57.713 --> 00:02:09.657
Now, first of all, as he says in the very beginning, that it is important to be aware of the ego, it's important for us to observe it, to be able to watch it and check where's it originated from?

00:02:09.907 --> 00:02:12.437
Where did it come from and where will it go?

00:02:12.531 --> 00:02:15.091
Travel with the movement of the ego?

00:02:15.091 --> 00:02:17.870
See where it's going, see where it has arisen from.

00:02:18.120 --> 00:02:21.340
See what it does and don't judge it.

00:02:21.639 --> 00:02:23.379
Just watch it, just observe it.

00:02:23.504 --> 00:02:25.094
This is what Osho is talking about.

00:02:25.094 --> 00:02:26.685
Look at it from many angles.

00:02:26.875 --> 00:02:35.745
Look at the ego, from a place where there is multiple angles and therefore it's not so easy to remove it.

00:02:35.913 --> 00:02:37.810
He said that is very interesting.

00:02:37.935 --> 00:02:39.735
Don't be in a hurry to sacrifice it.

00:02:39.985 --> 00:02:42.085
Otherwise the greatest egoist is born.

00:02:42.210 --> 00:02:46.789
What he means by that is there's no need to sacrifice something that is already false.

00:02:46.914 --> 00:02:53.045
What's already happened is we have sacrificed the Truth, our Real Self for the ego.

00:02:53.295 --> 00:02:54.795
We have already done the sacrifice.

00:02:55.198 --> 00:03:00.657
There's no need to sacrifice the ego in order to get to our Real Self or True Self.

00:03:00.927 --> 00:03:02.668
That True Self is always there.

00:03:02.877 --> 00:03:13.835
What we have to remove is the idea that we are this ego, this identity that is transient, that is subject to change and modification.

00:03:13.969 --> 00:03:20.723
All we have to do is really let go the false and then the ego automatically dissolves away.

00:03:20.723 --> 00:03:23.062
We don't have to do anything for it to happen.

00:03:23.312 --> 00:03:35.383
Otherwise, what will be happening is, we'll be creating a narrative of a great being who sacrificed the ego and really it's just an egoic idea of having this story of, I have sacrificed the ego.

00:03:35.612 --> 00:03:36.633
I have done this.

00:03:36.842 --> 00:03:38.473
I have transcended my ego.

00:03:38.742 --> 00:03:44.146
The recognition of the Truth is one, where you only really speak of the Truth.

00:03:44.282 --> 00:03:54.969
Your focus is not always on the ego and what you've attained, but more or less describing what it is that is seen through the sense of being Brahman, of Aham Brahmasmi.

00:03:55.215 --> 00:03:58.759
It's from that vision that you look at life and you interact with life.

00:03:59.039 --> 00:04:08.823
It's not necessary that in order to show your spirituality and your development, that you have to talk about letting go of your ego or that you've transcended the ego.

00:04:09.073 --> 00:04:12.163
That again is another game of the ego.

00:04:12.413 --> 00:04:26.497
So the moment we think we are humble, then it literally becomes the game of the subtle ego and to get rid of this subtle ego, it's very difficult because we do not even recognize that we have this type of ego.

00:04:26.747 --> 00:04:29.026
Now we may think we transcended things.

00:04:29.297 --> 00:04:36.067
It may appear that we have made great strides and great attainment in our spiritual journey.

00:04:36.317 --> 00:04:42.031
But actually, what tends to happen is we lose focus on what the subtle ego is.

00:04:42.382 --> 00:04:49.622
We forget how to see how this subtle ego affects our spirituality and affects our day-to-day life.

00:04:49.891 --> 00:04:51.872
We don't need to pretend to be humble.

00:04:52.122 --> 00:04:57.692
Being humble is not something that comes to you through getting rid of the ego.

00:04:57.901 --> 00:05:02.742
Humility truly comes from when you understand what you really are.

00:05:02.992 --> 00:05:14.096
And when you understand what you really are, there's no need to say that the ego is nonsense or the ego is false and you're all wrong if you believe in the ego, there's none of that that needs to be done.

00:05:14.221 --> 00:05:22.908
To understand the ego completely, we need to be fully attentive, aware and conscious of it whenever we can, whenever it is possible.

00:05:23.033 --> 00:05:35.819
This is the name and game of this whole quote, it's to be aware as much as possible, to be alert as much as possible, to be able to watch the game of the ego rather than participating in it.

00:05:36.069 --> 00:05:38.740
This is the main aim behind that.

00:05:38.865 --> 00:05:45.295
We will have a look at the next quote by Osho to know the real self is enough.

00:05:45.625 --> 00:05:49.944
The ego falls flat on the ground without any effort to surrender it.

00:05:50.172 --> 00:05:56.182
I cannot say to you drop the ego because that means I accept the reality of your ego.

00:05:56.322 --> 00:06:02.302
This is incredibly deep and incredibly insightful, actually into understanding what the ego is.

00:06:02.552 --> 00:06:07.661
And this is the ultimate nature of spirituality, which is to understand who you really are.

00:06:07.779 --> 00:06:11.839
Therefore, knowing that you are Brahman is absolutely enough.

00:06:12.170 --> 00:06:14.779
You do not need to do anything else.

00:06:15.029 --> 00:06:16.889
What ego are you going to surrender?

00:06:16.889 --> 00:06:22.509
When the only Real, when the only Changeless Reality is what you really are, which is Brahman.

00:06:22.764 --> 00:06:26.819
Osho is very right, that there's no need to put any effort to surrender the ego.

00:06:27.069 --> 00:06:29.019
To surrender the ego is to give it a reality.

00:06:29.466 --> 00:06:31.656
It's to give it an actual life.

00:06:31.956 --> 00:06:35.677
And what he's saying here is the only real life that is here.

00:06:35.677 --> 00:06:38.617
The only thing that is alive is the True Self.

00:06:38.742 --> 00:06:48.331
We don't need to surrender the ego and the question will be is how can it find existence when the Self is always illuminating from its own Self.

00:06:48.581 --> 00:06:54.052
Yeah, that the Self does not need an external light to illumine It.

00:06:54.216 --> 00:06:56.617
It's always Self-Luminous.

00:06:56.916 --> 00:06:57.877
It's always there.

00:06:58.052 --> 00:07:01.649
The ego is something that needs the light to shine.

00:07:01.649 --> 00:07:03.769
And guess what light it uses to shine?

00:07:03.867 --> 00:07:05.607
What does the ego utilize?

00:07:05.857 --> 00:07:07.476
It is the Light of the Self.

00:07:07.726 --> 00:07:11.987
So everything comes from the Self, everything arrives from the Self.

00:07:12.112 --> 00:07:17.346
Therefore it's very important to know our True Self and this is what Osho is emphasizing.

00:07:17.471 --> 00:07:26.100
Osho is very right when he talks about that we have to accept the reality of our ego and that it is a part of our reality.

00:07:26.100 --> 00:07:33.170
Something that we cannot escape and even to drop the ego would mean to drop reality.

00:07:33.420 --> 00:07:34.740
And that is not possible.

00:07:34.990 --> 00:07:39.024
See, the ego can exist in Brahman and that's absolutely fine.

00:07:39.141 --> 00:07:47.951
As Brahman, you may function in this world and it may appear that you have an ego and that's all the ego is, is an appearance.

00:07:48.096 --> 00:07:59.300
That, for example, I've used this many times before that when you have a screen and you have images, the screen does not become influenced by the images that are portrayed upon it.

00:07:59.440 --> 00:08:05.233
If the screen is blank, it remains blank, even after the images have shown itself.

00:08:05.358 --> 00:08:09.110
Say there are characters on the screen and something occurs with the characters.

00:08:09.360 --> 00:08:17.038
The screen doesn't get affected, if the characters are sad, if they're lonely, if they're happy and ecstatic, the screen remains the same.

00:08:17.103 --> 00:08:36.607
Likewise, our Real Self remains the same and this finite reality of our ego, will just appear and then disappear, but upon the blank screen of our True Self, our Higher Consciousness, this Ultimate Reality or this Awareness, it has little to give to it.

00:08:36.857 --> 00:08:43.278
If anything, it probably has nothing, there's no need for us to drop the ego because it is an appearance.

00:08:43.528 --> 00:08:47.438
And like every appearance, it appears and then disappears.

00:08:47.649 --> 00:08:49.599
It is not something that's going to last.

00:08:49.899 --> 00:08:56.948
So why focus on something that's not going to last, but focus on something that is going to last and that is your True Self.

00:08:57.198 --> 00:09:01.619
This awareness, that is constantly here, right here, right now.

00:09:01.869 --> 00:09:11.499
The third quote is when I'm all alone with myself and when there is no thought, no thought of anyone I am in the company of myself.

00:09:11.749 --> 00:09:28.912
When the outer world is absent, inside there is the company of oneself, in that companionless-ness and solitude in your Pure Being, the truth is realized because in your innermost being you yourself are the Truth.

00:09:29.044 --> 00:09:30.264
This is Satsang.

00:09:30.399 --> 00:09:35.113
This quote is describing what satsang really is and what it really means.

00:09:35.238 --> 00:09:38.278
This is the truest way of doing satsang.

00:09:38.508 --> 00:09:40.008
This is the most pure way.

00:09:40.182 --> 00:09:56.695
Understanding that you're connecting with the Atman or you're connecting with Brahman, that True Self that is when you are doing true Satsang and Satsang isn't about being at a place, with a group of people or a group, or being around a leader.

00:09:56.945 --> 00:09:59.164
That is not what's satsang is.

00:09:59.495 --> 00:10:12.115
Satsang isn't simply just to gain knowledge, but it's about letting go of knowledge that is taking you away from understanding that you are Brahman, that you are Pure Awareness, Pure Consciousness.

00:10:12.240 --> 00:10:23.475
What tends to happen with this satsang of yourself, you lose all the barriers against you knowing the knowledge, that knowledge of Brahman and that's what satsang does.

00:10:23.730 --> 00:10:25.679
It gets rid of all those barriers.

00:10:25.929 --> 00:10:28.710
And frankly, you are your own best company.

00:10:28.960 --> 00:10:29.830
That's a fact.

00:10:30.100 --> 00:10:34.820
You are the one person that can take yourself to the ultimate goal.

00:10:35.075 --> 00:10:36.149
It's all up to you.

00:10:36.399 --> 00:10:39.389
None of this can happen without you.

00:10:39.522 --> 00:10:50.241
This awareness that we've been talking about is all reliant on whether you want to be aware of it or whether you like to be part of the world and then to function in the world.

00:10:50.491 --> 00:10:51.601
That's totally up to you.

00:10:51.726 --> 00:10:54.307
Your pure being is awareness itself.

00:10:54.456 --> 00:11:00.216
What you really are is awareness yourself, and you have to enjoy that solitude.

00:11:00.417 --> 00:11:02.557
That solitude shouldn't give you any fear.

00:11:02.807 --> 00:11:07.376
It should actually make you more courageous and fearless.

00:11:07.626 --> 00:11:12.027
That would be the great purpose of being in your pure being.

00:11:12.277 --> 00:11:12.517
Yeah.

00:11:12.517 --> 00:11:13.777
That is awareness.

00:11:13.902 --> 00:11:17.971
Companionless - why does Osho talk about companionless-ness.

00:11:18.277 --> 00:11:23.822
It's because when we think we have a companion, we can become reliant on that companion.

00:11:24.072 --> 00:11:32.831
And what Osho is talking about here is that this satsang, doesn't need a companion because there's only oneness here and that oneness is what you are.

00:11:33.081 --> 00:11:39.662
You are that Formless Oneness, that Formless Consciousness, that Formless Awareness.

00:11:39.787 --> 00:11:44.447
The fourth quote is just watch whatever the mind is doing.

00:11:44.741 --> 00:11:45.782
Don't disturb it.

00:11:45.923 --> 00:11:47.153
Don't prevent it.

00:11:47.403 --> 00:11:48.572
Don't repress it.

00:11:48.822 --> 00:11:51.192
Don't do anything at all on your part.

00:11:51.442 --> 00:11:55.779
You just be a watcher and the miracle of watching is meditation.

00:11:56.029 --> 00:12:02.649
As you watch solely, your mind becomes empty of thoughts, but you're not falling asleep.

00:12:02.879 --> 00:12:05.335
You are becoming more alert, more aware.

00:12:05.586 --> 00:12:12.735
And this really is a beautiful meditation and it's more or less a guided meditation in itself.

00:12:13.030 --> 00:12:17.125
Osho is not giving any particular method on what to do.

00:12:17.375 --> 00:12:20.885
In fact, what he's trying to say here is just watch the mind.

00:12:21.135 --> 00:12:24.446
Now, when you start watching the mind, what then occurs?

00:12:24.696 --> 00:12:30.155
We start observing that actually you are watching the one that is watching the mind.

00:12:30.225 --> 00:12:40.044
That's why Osho is talking about not disturbing it, because when you do not put your own interpretation onto your meditation, then you go further in your meditation.

00:12:40.294 --> 00:12:42.085
Then you take it to the next level.

00:12:42.210 --> 00:12:44.309
Don't prevent it and don't repress it.

00:12:44.559 --> 00:12:48.690
Don't try to stop your mind from having thoughts.

00:12:48.940 --> 00:12:52.779
A lot of people want to meditate and they're like, well, I can't get rid of my thoughts.

00:12:52.879 --> 00:12:59.552
The one advice I always give is just watch your thoughts, like you watch clouds pass by in a blue sky.

00:12:59.802 --> 00:13:00.913
Just be like that.

00:13:01.153 --> 00:13:03.102
Thoughts appear, let them disappear.

00:13:03.352 --> 00:13:10.033
You should be able to allow your mind to not be distracted by those thoughts, but don't repress anything.

00:13:10.283 --> 00:13:11.182
Don't do anything.

00:13:11.182 --> 00:13:13.913
Don't even interpret the thought, just watch it.

00:13:14.062 --> 00:13:15.623
That's how simple it's got to be.

00:13:15.748 --> 00:13:18.567
This is what he says the miracle of watching is meditation.

00:13:19.125 --> 00:13:25.125
When you are aware of your own awareness, it's when you are truly meditating.

00:13:25.250 --> 00:13:28.879
As you watch slowly your mind becomes empty of thoughts.

00:13:29.029 --> 00:13:30.440
That's what happens naturally.

00:13:30.649 --> 00:13:35.609
Now when you think about it, be aware of your awareness, be conscious of your consciousness.

00:13:35.859 --> 00:13:38.879
Be alert of that formless awareness.

00:13:39.129 --> 00:13:42.078
Now tell me, is there any thought in that awareness?

00:13:42.328 --> 00:13:44.188
Does any thoughts originate from there?

00:13:44.438 --> 00:13:51.369
If you're really sincere in that search, you will find that your mind is actually empty of thoughts.

00:13:51.619 --> 00:14:04.379
It appears that the mind has thoughts, but really if there is no person thinking, meaning no ego thinking, then what remains is only awareness, is only consciousness.

00:14:04.629 --> 00:14:06.219
And this is what Osho is talking about.

00:14:06.219 --> 00:14:09.918
So you become more alert, alert to what you really are.

00:14:10.168 --> 00:14:10.528
Yeah.

00:14:10.859 --> 00:14:11.759
This is the truth.

00:14:12.009 --> 00:14:12.788
The fifth quote.

00:14:13.038 --> 00:14:18.759
When you are also formless within suddenly something clicks and you are one with God.

00:14:19.109 --> 00:14:20.369
He is formless.

00:14:20.428 --> 00:14:21.658
You are formless.

00:14:21.928 --> 00:14:24.198
They cannot be too formlessnesses.

00:14:24.458 --> 00:14:28.212
There can be millions of forms, but formlessness can only be one.

00:14:28.337 --> 00:14:37.332
Remember this Atma, this soul that you have and Brahman, which you may call God are both formless, they don't have a form of any kind.

00:14:37.404 --> 00:14:39.384
Therefore they're one and the same.

00:14:39.509 --> 00:14:46.121
That's why Adi Shankara ji often says that the Atma and Brahman are one they're not different.

00:14:46.417 --> 00:14:49.942
Shri Krishna more or less says the same thing in the Bhagavad Gita.

00:14:50.067 --> 00:14:59.010
Osho here is saying the same thing too, that when you realize that you are formless and you realize that this God is also formless.

00:14:59.260 --> 00:15:01.061
There is only the formless.

00:15:01.311 --> 00:15:04.681
There's only going to be one formless and there's only unity there.

00:15:04.951 --> 00:15:06.030
Only oneness there.

00:15:06.155 --> 00:15:11.355
He mentions that they can be millions of forms, but you yourself are formless.

00:15:11.605 --> 00:15:11.936
Why?

00:15:11.936 --> 00:15:19.005
Because you associate yourself with that, which is changeless, which is permanent, which is Brahman Itself.

00:15:19.152 --> 00:15:21.701
So your being is formless and so is God.

00:15:21.951 --> 00:15:29.206
So therefore they cannot be this two formlessness and whatever is formless is always in union.

00:15:29.296 --> 00:15:31.635
As I mentioned, there's always a oneness.

00:15:31.770 --> 00:15:41.001
Realize that you are formless within and how you can do that is simply through the Neti-Neti process of seeing what you are not.

00:15:41.251 --> 00:15:43.741
So whatever can change is subject to modification.

00:15:43.991 --> 00:15:55.937
That goes through Neti-Neti, and you will find that when you go through this process, you will observe that your awareness, your consciousness remains unchanged and that is Brahman.

00:15:56.236 --> 00:16:00.756
That which does not change, that formlessness is what we're looking for.

00:16:01.006 --> 00:16:02.356
The sizth quote.

00:16:02.606 --> 00:16:07.447
That's why I say don't get lost in words, don't get lost in doctrines.

00:16:07.615 --> 00:16:12.355
Rather find a living master, whose very being is a finger pointing to the moon.

00:16:12.533 --> 00:16:16.083
In his presence, maybe something transpires in you.

00:16:16.413 --> 00:16:22.854
Not in his words, but perhaps in his silence, not in theories, but perhaps in his eyes.

00:16:23.104 --> 00:16:29.490
There you may find a certain inspiration, a glimpse, a door opening into the mysteries of life.

00:16:29.740 --> 00:16:31.421
So what is a real master?

00:16:31.671 --> 00:16:35.091
A real master can be the one who speaks without speaking.

00:16:35.341 --> 00:16:38.341
In their silence, you understand so much.

00:16:38.591 --> 00:16:41.171
Listens as if there's nobody else present.

00:16:41.366 --> 00:16:50.432
They would make you feel like you're the only person there and they may be around a crowd of people, but because they're connected to you, they're listening to you.

00:16:50.432 --> 00:16:52.081
They give their full attention to you.

00:16:52.331 --> 00:16:57.725
And then when they smile at you, when your master smiles, you feel your world is complete.

00:16:57.966 --> 00:17:03.066
And many people who had Osho as a guru, as a living master felt the same thing.

00:17:03.191 --> 00:17:07.250
Many of us who have had a spiritual master, we have felt the same thing.

00:17:07.500 --> 00:17:16.361
When we see a real master is not so important that we get too attached to the words that they say, but what's more important is we get their message.

00:17:16.611 --> 00:17:22.621
We don't make doctrines out to their words, but we understand the message and then we lived them.

00:17:22.767 --> 00:17:30.632
It's more important to live them than to memorize those words, that's what our focus should be on is being the message.

00:17:30.882 --> 00:17:36.051
And like he says, rather find a living master who's very being is a finger pointing to the moon.

00:17:36.291 --> 00:17:45.862
And the reason why he says, find a living master is because when there is a master that has deceased or has gone, you can project how you perceive them to be.

00:17:45.987 --> 00:17:51.181
For example, if you read something from a master of the past, like we're reading Osho now.

00:17:51.431 --> 00:17:58.941
I'm being open with you to tell you I'm giving you my interpretation, but what Osho's words were only, he knows what he meant.

00:17:59.191 --> 00:17:59.431
Yeah.

00:17:59.461 --> 00:18:03.641
Only he will know, and only he can explain what it truly was.

00:18:03.891 --> 00:18:19.683
I can only give you my interpretation of it, but if I say to you that my interpretation should now be the doctrine, should be the way you perceive Osho, that is when things become very religious and things turn into a religion of a formal sense.

00:18:19.933 --> 00:18:25.334
But that's why Osho says that rather find a living master whose very being is a finger pointing to the moon.

00:18:25.584 --> 00:18:28.534
So basically at this point, think about it.

00:18:28.564 --> 00:18:30.784
The living master is Brahman itself.

00:18:31.034 --> 00:18:36.397
The finger pointing to the moon. You see the master, but really what you're seeing is Brahman.

00:18:36.621 --> 00:18:39.651
They also become formless like Brahman.

00:18:39.931 --> 00:18:43.290
They raise your consciousness to that pure consciousness.

00:18:43.476 --> 00:18:53.317
They raise your awareness to that awareness that is eternal and that eternal reality is within you and surrounds you at all times.

00:18:53.826 --> 00:18:59.326
Osho says, simply being in the presence of such a master can make something happen.

00:18:59.576 --> 00:19:00.836
It can create something.

00:19:00.981 --> 00:19:02.001
It's creative.

00:19:02.251 --> 00:19:03.511
Creative in what manner?

00:19:03.761 --> 00:19:08.872
Creative in creating that urge, that desire to be enlightened.

00:19:09.468 --> 00:19:10.817
That's what transpires.

00:19:11.067 --> 00:19:26.874
Suddenly, you start feeling that his whole universe is working with you, for you to know your true self and as Osho says, not in his words, but perhaps in his silence, what's more important is a silence in where you are with the living Master.

00:19:27.054 --> 00:19:28.673
Understanding that silence.

00:19:28.923 --> 00:19:38.973
You have to be in the presence of the Master, the actual physical presence of the master to understand the silence, literally by watching a video, it can only give you some element of that.

00:19:39.098 --> 00:19:42.548
Let me also say that the Master doesn't give you theories.

00:19:42.828 --> 00:19:47.419
Yes, the master can explain things very effectively, very efficiently.

00:19:47.669 --> 00:19:59.181
So the one aspect that we use in Advaita Vedanta to understand the master is that they should be able to explain what is in the Upanishads, in the Gita, in the Brahma Sutras, and so forth.

00:19:59.181 --> 00:20:05.594
In the scriptures, they're able to elaborate upon it and give you their own take on it based on their own experience.

00:20:05.844 --> 00:20:07.193
The same thing with Osho.

00:20:07.376 --> 00:20:10.196
He always used to say, experience it for yourself.

00:20:10.446 --> 00:20:12.846
The only way to know the truth is if you know it.

00:20:13.011 --> 00:20:16.582
You cannot rely on somebody else, even if they are your master.

00:20:16.832 --> 00:20:25.571
So it's very important that a master only provides you an inspiration or a glimpse as Osho says, but really you have to walk into the mystery of life.

00:20:25.842 --> 00:20:29.211
You have to walk into the lion's den, so to speak.

00:20:29.336 --> 00:20:40.751
Number six and what I wanted to share was Osho's 10 commandments and he was very reluctant to give them, but I think they're very interesting and very cool to understand.

00:20:40.904 --> 00:20:44.505
So his first one was, and they're in no particular order he said.

00:20:44.755 --> 00:20:49.734
Never obey anyone's command unless it is coming from within you also.

00:20:50.000 --> 00:20:56.441
So don't just follow a living master or a book blindly, unless it speaks to you, then follow it.

00:20:56.711 --> 00:20:58.000
That's really important.

00:20:58.250 --> 00:21:00.921
There is no God other than life itself.

00:21:01.005 --> 00:21:01.994
And that's very true.

00:21:02.244 --> 00:21:09.924
The underlying reality within all life, the underlying union within all life forms is Brahman itself.

00:21:10.174 --> 00:21:15.063
And Brahman is not what you can conceptualize in the Western context as God.

00:21:15.337 --> 00:21:25.563
Brahman is beyond that Western concept, what Brahman is, is just that pure consciousness that is both infused in life and yet transcends life.

00:21:25.611 --> 00:21:29.750
Osho is very right when he says that there is no God other than life itself.

00:21:30.020 --> 00:21:35.421
And in fact, what happens then is that your attitude towards life becomes affirmative.

00:21:35.721 --> 00:21:40.490
It becomes one of positivity, one of gratitude, one of love and compassion.

00:21:40.740 --> 00:21:57.815
But if you see God as separate to the world and the world is wrong, or life is wrong, then there is that duality and then that division creates a lot of pain and suffering, not just for yourself, but you will also inflict that pain onto others.

00:21:58.065 --> 00:22:01.244
Truth is within you, do not search for it elsewhere.

00:22:01.424 --> 00:22:03.345
This is the essence of meditation.

00:22:03.595 --> 00:22:05.305
Find the truth within you.

00:22:05.609 --> 00:22:06.849
Brahman is within you.

00:22:06.920 --> 00:22:10.384
Brahman is the only truth that is within you.

00:22:10.634 --> 00:22:14.210
And therefore that should make it very easy for you to discover Brahman.

00:22:14.490 --> 00:22:17.940
It's not that you have to find Brahman as it being something separate to you.

00:22:18.269 --> 00:22:21.420
You discover Brahman as your very own being.

00:22:21.545 --> 00:22:23.980
Fourth one is love is prayer.

00:22:24.230 --> 00:22:28.250
Prayer is not about asking God for something or asking life for something.

00:22:28.500 --> 00:22:29.369
Love is prayer.

00:22:29.369 --> 00:22:34.099
When you love others, when you love yourself, you are automatically praying.

00:22:34.432 --> 00:22:38.220
The fifth one to become nothingness is the door to the truth.

00:22:38.470 --> 00:22:42.393
Nothingness itself is the means the goal, and attainment.

00:22:42.722 --> 00:22:45.042
What he means by nothingness is this no-thingness.

00:22:45.063 --> 00:22:49.178
This is formlessness that we've been talking about earlier on in this episode.

00:22:49.428 --> 00:22:50.728
That is the door to truth.

00:22:51.028 --> 00:22:56.680
Once you understand that you are without a form, without any content within you.

00:22:56.930 --> 00:22:59.099
That is who you are.

00:22:59.349 --> 00:23:01.569
So this nothingness is the door to truth.

00:23:01.819 --> 00:23:05.599
And nothingness itself is the means, the goal and the attainment.

00:23:05.789 --> 00:23:12.549
So through formlessness that is the means to understand your formless, go through that inquiry of I am the formless.

00:23:12.737 --> 00:23:17.957
The goal is that you are formless and the attainment is your formlessness itself.

00:23:18.227 --> 00:23:19.237
So this is Brahman.

00:23:19.386 --> 00:23:21.067
Let's use the word awareness.

00:23:21.366 --> 00:23:22.987
Awareness itself is the means.

00:23:23.209 --> 00:23:26.239
You utilize awareness to become aware of your awareness.

00:23:26.489 --> 00:23:31.144
The goal is to be pure awareness, and the attainment is our awareness.

00:23:31.144 --> 00:23:36.980
You've always been awareness and you cannot escape awareness because that is your very core being.

00:23:37.309 --> 00:23:39.140
That is your true nature.

00:23:39.390 --> 00:23:43.369
The sixth one is life is now and here.

00:23:43.619 --> 00:23:44.369
Very true.

00:23:44.619 --> 00:23:46.690
Everything you need is right here and now.

00:23:46.894 --> 00:23:47.903
Live wakefully.

00:23:48.213 --> 00:23:48.634
Be alert.

00:23:49.029 --> 00:24:04.265
Think about everything you do, every action you take, every thought you have should be done with the precision of pure alertness, be as alert as possible and be attentive as possible, then you're living wakefully.

00:24:04.575 --> 00:24:10.924
Live wakefully also means that's another way to be enlightened, when you live with absolute attention.

00:24:11.223 --> 00:24:16.826
Measure your words, measure your intentions, measure your actions accordingly.

00:24:16.987 --> 00:24:21.747
Do that which causes less harm because that's what happens when you live wakefully.

00:24:22.007 --> 00:24:23.666
Do you not swim - float.

00:24:23.876 --> 00:24:29.852
Instead of being a doer, just float with life, let the ocean carry you wherever it wants to take you.

00:24:29.852 --> 00:24:34.672
Do not tell the ocean where you want to go, do not swim to the other shore.

00:24:34.922 --> 00:24:43.041
Float and even by floating, you will reach the shore effortlessly instead of exerting yourself by swimming.

00:24:43.336 --> 00:24:46.771
Die each moment so that you can be new in each moment.

00:24:46.938 --> 00:24:47.988
That's so beautiful.

00:24:48.113 --> 00:24:55.722
In fact, by doing this, we get rid of our fear of death because we understand that we are new in every moment.

00:24:55.752 --> 00:25:04.923
Even the moment when you have to discard this body, will be a moment for you where you know that there is a renewal happening, something new is happening in each moment.

00:25:05.173 --> 00:25:05.563
Yes.

00:25:05.593 --> 00:25:10.361
In that next moment, you may not be alive and to the world you may be considered dead.

00:25:10.577 --> 00:25:14.748
But to you, you know, that everything is new in the moment.

00:25:14.865 --> 00:25:15.164
Why?

00:25:15.164 --> 00:25:17.085
Because awareness remains the same.

00:25:17.355 --> 00:25:18.704
Awareness does not die.

00:25:18.974 --> 00:25:20.634
Awareness is a eternal.

00:25:20.934 --> 00:25:22.115
And the 10th one.

00:25:22.248 --> 00:25:23.448
Do not search.

00:25:23.698 --> 00:25:25.407
That which is, is.

00:25:25.498 --> 00:25:26.907
Stop and see.

00:25:27.157 --> 00:25:28.728
This is very direct by Osho.

00:25:28.798 --> 00:25:32.042
I think it requires us to repeat it once again.

00:25:32.292 --> 00:25:33.522
Do not search.

00:25:33.732 --> 00:25:35.653
That which is, is.

00:25:35.785 --> 00:25:37.005
Stop and see.

00:25:37.255 --> 00:25:38.575
That's all we need to do.

00:25:38.700 --> 00:25:40.500
We don't need to look for this truth.

00:25:40.740 --> 00:25:42.599
We do not have to find it within us.

00:25:42.849 --> 00:25:44.890
We just have to let it shine forth.

00:25:45.140 --> 00:25:46.339
It's always shining.

00:25:46.589 --> 00:25:48.180
We just have to be alert.

00:25:48.240 --> 00:25:53.720
As Osho said, be wakeful and then It is revealed upon Itself.

00:25:53.970 --> 00:25:57.069
It reveals Itself by its own Self.

00:25:57.130 --> 00:26:01.069
It doesn't need us to intervene because that, which is, is.

00:26:01.099 --> 00:26:01.940
It exists.

00:26:02.134 --> 00:26:06.785
We end the first episode of the wisdom of the mystics.

00:26:06.815 --> 00:26:11.134
We looked at Osho and let me say, Osho has been a great inspiration for me.

00:26:11.384 --> 00:26:24.144
I started my spiritual journey over 20 years ago, but in the last 12 years, it began with looking into the teachings of Osho and he caused a refinement in my own knowledge.

00:26:24.244 --> 00:26:33.414
And even though right now, the refinement is continuing, but I always say that Osho was a very necessary individual in my spirituality.

00:26:33.664 --> 00:26:51.152
With his wisdom, I've been able to capture so much more and it also created a love for meditation, which I infinitely thank Osho for because it was through his emphasis on meditation that I continue to meditate to this day.

00:26:51.402 --> 00:26:53.162
So thank you very much to Osho.

00:26:53.327 --> 00:26:55.877
A new episode is uploaded every Sunday.
