00:00:03.302 --> 00:00:11.401
Hello, and welcome to the 10th episode of The Bearded Mystic Podcast and I'm your host, Rahul N Singh.
00:00:11.731 --> 00:00:18.152
Thank you for joining today and for taking out the time to either listen or watch this podcast episode.
00:00:18.442 --> 00:00:27.751
Today we're going to be talking about whether there can be a world without God and, what are the benefits and implications of such a world?
00:00:28.039 --> 00:00:31.609
What would a world without God look like?
00:00:31.782 --> 00:00:48.146
When you think about this, there is a very distinct difference with the way the Eastern religions view God and interpret God to the way the Abrahamic religions interpret God.
00:00:48.170 --> 00:01:04.971
Taoism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Hinduism, mainly view 'God' as an Ultimate Reality that has infused itself in nature and belongs to nature, has manifested itself in nature yet is also distinct from it.
00:01:04.971 --> 00:01:10.552
When you go into the deepest philosophies within those religions, eventually, that's what you get to.
00:01:10.875 --> 00:01:17.905
Now, some may not term it as God, and there's a significant reason why they do not define it as God.
00:01:18.090 --> 00:01:33.436
From my interactions with different spiritual groups, with my experience of understanding what the Abrahamic religions view God as, that Abrahamic view of God has now taken its place in the Eastern religions.
00:01:33.826 --> 00:01:40.340
The people who follow these Eastern religions view God is not far off from the Abrahamic sense of the word - God.
00:01:40.784 --> 00:01:46.168
This means that people do believe that God is a man up there in the sky, up above.
00:01:46.228 --> 00:01:54.588
If you notice a lot of people that even say, God is everywhere, they look above, they say, 'God', as if he's up there in the sky, no one's ever seen him.
00:01:55.338 --> 00:01:57.519
No one knows if he's actually there on some cloud.
00:01:58.313 --> 00:02:06.243
But we tend to view this God, as something separate to us and someone that is the judge, jury and executioner.
00:02:06.750 --> 00:02:18.926
This thought, this idea of God has actually seeped through, into a lot of the spiritual groups, despite the philosophy of those religions stating something else.
00:02:19.197 --> 00:02:22.366
For example, in Advaita Vedanta there is no room for this God.
00:02:22.917 --> 00:02:24.176
There's no need for this God.
00:02:24.326 --> 00:02:26.097
This God doesn't need to exist.
00:02:26.356 --> 00:02:28.396
There's no need for a separate creator.
00:02:28.426 --> 00:02:30.437
There's no need for a separate judgment.
00:02:30.734 --> 00:02:34.963
If you look at how people term God, they go to that.
00:02:34.963 --> 00:02:41.984
So I hope I'm making it clear because this is a very subtle difference, but also very starking difference between the two.
00:02:42.231 --> 00:02:50.724
If you listen to a lot of the spiritual teachers out there, their view of God isn't so different to the God of the Abrahamic sense.
00:02:51.068 --> 00:02:57.498
In my own journey, I have gone through a belief in God to not believing in God.
00:02:57.748 --> 00:03:02.669
When I mean God, I mean the Abrahamic sense of God or God that is separate.
00:03:02.899 --> 00:03:05.479
I do not think that you need to believe in such a God.
00:03:05.951 --> 00:03:09.008
But is it right for this belief to be taken away?
00:03:09.038 --> 00:03:11.359
And can we replace it with something else?
00:03:11.989 --> 00:03:14.639
Something more real, something that we can relate to more.
00:03:15.239 --> 00:03:17.878
This is what we're going to discover in today's episode.
00:03:18.104 --> 00:03:24.055
If we take this God figure that we've talked about yeah, the Abrahamic sense of God.
00:03:24.625 --> 00:03:25.659
The God up there.
00:03:26.024 --> 00:03:31.674
If we take this heroic figure away from society, and we say it's dead.
00:03:31.734 --> 00:03:35.243
Like Frederick Nietzsche said that God is dead.
00:03:35.903 --> 00:03:38.799
If we call this God dead, what happens?
00:03:39.156 --> 00:03:43.390
It actually has a very catastrophic effect and we see this now with the world.
00:03:43.721 --> 00:03:50.313
If you don't give people something to believe in, which is overtly very good or supposedly very good.
00:03:50.514 --> 00:03:56.683
You take away people's morals or their chance of learning how to have a moral life.
00:03:56.894 --> 00:03:59.533
I do believe having a moral life isn't important.
00:03:59.593 --> 00:04:06.574
I think it's more important to understand your own humanity and that should be your compass with dealing with the world.
00:04:07.144 --> 00:04:12.800
For example, if it means that there is a God has given you morals, if you take that away from people.
00:04:13.260 --> 00:04:18.826
You're left with a blank slate and if you don't replace it with anything, guess what ends up being the replacement?
00:04:19.177 --> 00:04:29.007
Our carnal desires and that's because we feel a close affinity to our desires, not because desires are wrong and it's bad.
00:04:29.293 --> 00:04:32.048
That's the next best thing realistically.
00:04:32.348 --> 00:04:39.639
If I have to replace God with anything, I'll replace God with a better car, with a better house, frankly that's what I would do.
00:04:40.245 --> 00:04:45.351
So taking away this grand heroic figure, this is what ends up happening.
00:04:45.422 --> 00:04:48.422
So literally people have a God shaped hole.
00:04:48.422 --> 00:04:56.653
If you see God has infinite and boundless, this God-shaped hole that's within everyone has to be filled in some way or another.
00:04:56.903 --> 00:05:00.793
What happens is we end up being a consumer.
00:05:01.043 --> 00:05:02.213
We consume things.
00:05:02.213 --> 00:05:06.293
We constantly want more and more things, we need to fulfill our desires.
00:05:06.293 --> 00:05:10.274
Our desires are never ending, they're continuously flowing.
00:05:10.814 --> 00:05:12.254
We want this, we want that.
00:05:13.024 --> 00:05:15.303
We do not know why we have this emptiness.
00:05:15.334 --> 00:05:22.074
There's this emptiness in life, even though our credit cards being constantly used, this emptiness is still not being filled.
00:05:22.341 --> 00:05:30.673
We may be attending some sermon or some church or some temple or whatever, but still they're relating to us about having a better life.
00:05:30.704 --> 00:05:31.874
How do you have a better life?
00:05:32.084 --> 00:05:39.204
Well, if you're rich, I understand that, but being wealthy doesn't mean that you're fulfilling your desires.
00:05:39.803 --> 00:05:42.384
You could just be adding onto more and more desires.
00:05:42.942 --> 00:05:50.509
No matter what happens, if you take away that figure of God and you don't replace it with anything, even though man is free.
00:05:50.509 --> 00:05:52.548
Man is free to his own desires.
00:05:52.908 --> 00:05:54.709
That's all, man is free too and guess what?
00:05:54.899 --> 00:06:06.112
He's bounded, again, mankind is now bounded within its desires, it's desire for power, it's desire for things, it's desire for possessions, it's desire to control people.
00:06:06.702 --> 00:06:10.512
So getting rid of God may not be the answer.
00:06:10.809 --> 00:06:17.394
Now when these desires end up becoming our God, this still applies if you believe in a God by the way.
00:06:17.475 --> 00:06:20.654
Believing is very different to knowing God as a reality.
00:06:21.105 --> 00:06:24.747
If we define God correctly, this is what is needed today.
00:06:25.226 --> 00:06:36.201
If you think about it, the new places of worship are our shopping malls, our shopping outlets, the stores that we go to, they are now our places of worship.
00:06:36.430 --> 00:06:39.430
We go there, what happens in the dazzling light?
00:06:39.880 --> 00:06:43.211
We see things and we are taken aback.
00:06:43.391 --> 00:06:44.471
We were on the journey.
00:06:44.810 --> 00:07:00.045
We're going to go through that constant process of seeing some thing that we like, that we only going to wear once, or we only going to use once, we'll put our card in buy it and eventually we just throw it away, once we've worn it once.
00:07:00.386 --> 00:07:07.232
That's what's happened when you take God out of the picture or when you take a certain spiritual life out of the picture.
00:07:07.528 --> 00:07:12.850
Not saying that this is what happens to everybody, but it can happen and even when you believe in a God.
00:07:13.163 --> 00:07:21.230
At the end of the day, if this God is abstract from you, is something separate to you, then you're not really gonna care.
00:07:21.331 --> 00:07:24.264
Even if you fear God, the fear is not real.
00:07:24.559 --> 00:07:30.596
The fear is just there when you are infront of the priest or infront of the preacher.
00:07:30.848 --> 00:07:36.867
Or when you're in the church, but otherwise when you're in your house, you don't give a damn about fearing God.
00:07:37.134 --> 00:07:38.485
That's the reality.
00:07:38.829 --> 00:07:40.569
You'll gossip about others.
00:07:40.939 --> 00:07:41.689
We'll do that.
00:07:41.720 --> 00:07:42.470
We don't care.
00:07:42.470 --> 00:07:47.079
We don't fear God, we will end up hurting other people and not thinking about it.
00:07:47.129 --> 00:07:51.589
We'll think it's okay to be racist or sexist or homophobic.
00:07:51.660 --> 00:08:09.862
We'll think all of those things and we'll think it's fine because we don't fear God, realistically, if we really did have that fear that we supposedly talk about, we apparently live a life of morals that has been stated by God, we would not be doing the things that we see today.
00:08:10.612 --> 00:08:13.192
We would not be experiencing the hatred we see today.
00:08:13.432 --> 00:08:14.512
This is a fact.
00:08:14.675 --> 00:08:22.617
I don't believe either fearing God helps and neither do I believe the belief in God helps, but there is a need to replace it.
00:08:22.752 --> 00:08:30.495
Like I mentioned, if we feel lost in terms of morals, that means that we lack purpose or we may lack meaning in life.
00:08:30.668 --> 00:08:36.934
We may come to a junction in life where we feel that something is missing and we just can't pinpoint it.
00:08:37.259 --> 00:09:01.388
We may look for meaning and then we end up going to a place of worship or we join a spiritual institution and we tried to find meaning with that, but because it's only a belief, it's not something we've discovered, it's not really true for us, it's something we're just told to believe in, to have faith in and we're empowered to have that belief and that faith, but still we end up feeling empty.
00:09:01.697 --> 00:09:03.557
We somehow still have doubts.
00:09:03.919 --> 00:09:11.653
Most places won't even address doubts, forget about having doubts because they think it's more important to believe than to know.
00:09:11.952 --> 00:09:15.972
We're meant to see God as a reality, not as something to believe in.
00:09:16.312 --> 00:09:23.032
A common example that is always used is do you believe in the sun or do you know the sun exists?
00:09:23.652 --> 00:09:25.751
I don't say, oh, well I believe this an exists.
00:09:26.322 --> 00:09:31.932
If someone said that to you, that they believe the sun exists, or they believe the moon exists, they will look at you as if you're strange.
00:09:32.458 --> 00:09:34.739
But you know, the sun exists, you know the moon exists.
00:09:35.198 --> 00:09:37.538
The question is, do you see God in the same way?
00:09:37.538 --> 00:09:39.129
Do you believe that God exists?
00:09:39.158 --> 00:09:40.719
Or do you know God exists?
00:09:40.778 --> 00:09:43.839
Do you experience God and how do you experience God?
00:09:44.649 --> 00:09:46.548
Because anyone can say they experience God.
00:09:46.870 --> 00:09:53.889
But I will mention this one thing, if God is still separate to you as an experience, it's not God at all.
00:09:54.190 --> 00:10:00.620
That's according to the deeper philosophies of Hinduism and all the other religions have come from the east.
00:10:01.267 --> 00:10:04.226
Another implication we have say, we do take God out of the picture.
00:10:05.706 --> 00:10:06.756
What ends up happening.
00:10:06.756 --> 00:10:08.616
We end up finding different heroes.
00:10:09.427 --> 00:10:11.736
We need a new hero and what happens.
00:10:11.736 --> 00:10:13.326
We believe in celebrity.
00:10:13.596 --> 00:10:16.807
Now, when you ask people what they want to be, they want to be famous, right?
00:10:17.287 --> 00:10:18.876
Because that's the new gods.
00:10:19.123 --> 00:10:26.082
There's no one more famous than God because no one debates God and his existence more than God itself.
00:10:26.082 --> 00:10:29.952
So we all eventually are looking towards the same goal.
00:10:29.952 --> 00:10:43.178
We all want to become God, but to the wrong means, we want to become famous in terms of media, or we want to become famous because we want the admiration of others and this is catastrophic.
00:10:44.043 --> 00:10:47.214
We are humans that are subject to flaws.
00:10:47.413 --> 00:10:52.639
The problem with having a belief in God and the problem is having heroes is that we expect perfection.
00:10:53.563 --> 00:10:56.254
We want something to be absolutely perfect.
00:10:57.063 --> 00:10:59.374
Nothing in this world can be absolutely perfect.
00:10:59.524 --> 00:11:00.094
Nothing.
00:11:01.203 --> 00:11:05.524
Even if you see God as the all righteous, all-powerful being.
00:11:06.173 --> 00:11:08.754
We will find that somehow God gets jealous.
00:11:09.116 --> 00:11:11.726
There, we also find issues with our hero.
00:11:12.136 --> 00:11:30.649
Like I said, we'll end up finding new heroes and we'll find that with people, if you worship a celebrity, you'll end up finding they have flaws You may find out they end up taking drugs and you may be someone that does not like drugs, you may not drink alcohol, but you find that your hero drinks, alcohol, you don't like your hero anymore.
00:11:31.091 --> 00:11:39.844
Even our heroes are subject to falling and we will just keep creating new heroes to support what we think is fulfilling us.
00:11:40.614 --> 00:11:45.269
Even new heroes, the new heroes we see today in the world cannot fulfill us.
00:11:45.721 --> 00:11:53.101
The benefits that we find when we, okay, so say there is no God, so what is the benefits here?
00:11:53.802 --> 00:12:02.173
The benefit is this, that religions need to upgrade and they have to upgrade as much as we upgrade our phone software.
00:12:02.484 --> 00:12:08.196
My Apple iPhone that I'm recording this podcast with always needs to upgrade its software.
00:12:08.859 --> 00:12:11.769
The same way should be with religion.
00:12:12.399 --> 00:12:15.938
Religion needs to constantly upgrade itself to the current times.
00:12:16.178 --> 00:12:22.842
Now, if science shows that there wasn't a supernatural being that created the existence, then that's the fact.
00:12:23.106 --> 00:12:28.773
Religion has to then say, okay, we've established this through observable science.
00:12:29.068 --> 00:12:33.410
Now let's see how this affects our philosophy, but we've not looked at that.
00:12:33.410 --> 00:12:38.169
We've now tried to defend a philosophy that doesn't stand up against science.
00:12:38.403 --> 00:12:45.039
It's only natural for people to end up leaving religion because we're not dealing with facts anymore.
00:12:45.309 --> 00:12:50.913
We're not dealing with evidence-based science or evidence-based reality.
00:12:51.033 --> 00:12:55.023
Religion really does need to understand what they want to see God as.
00:12:55.383 --> 00:12:59.043
Seeing God as the creator probably is not the answer anymore.
00:12:59.220 --> 00:13:05.793
To be honest, a lot of the major religions have failed to give great answers to this.
00:13:05.975 --> 00:13:18.304
This has been my biggest pet peeve is the separation between the creator and the creation because we see these two as different things, we're told to either believe in one or the other.
00:13:18.715 --> 00:13:20.607
Why not have belief in both of them?
00:13:20.607 --> 00:13:22.587
Why not see them as one reality?
00:13:22.784 --> 00:13:26.615
This is where Advaita Vedanta comes in to save the day for me.
00:13:26.811 --> 00:13:34.274
This is personally for me, and people may feel the same way, but what Buddhism, Daoism and Sikhism, that the underlying principle is this.
00:13:34.575 --> 00:13:45.770
The principle and everything that has come from that principle in terms of manifestations, the world that we see, this transactional reality is all one and they termed this as God.
00:13:46.130 --> 00:13:48.500
So God doesn't have any personality.
00:13:48.738 --> 00:13:58.870
Yeah, God does not have a personality, from my experience of meditation and going deep into understanding what Reality is.
00:13:59.254 --> 00:14:00.245
There's no personality.
00:14:00.831 --> 00:14:05.998
God is, it's not empty, but there's nothing you can put on it.
00:14:06.490 --> 00:14:09.671
The more you define it, the less it will be defined.
00:14:09.931 --> 00:14:11.280
It's such a paradox.
00:14:11.750 --> 00:14:14.510
If you put a label to it, it will deny the label.
00:14:14.931 --> 00:14:17.758
Then it will not be God or what we view as God.
00:14:19.048 --> 00:14:28.400
this is something that needs time for us to process, but the point I'm trying to make is that we need to stop seeing God in the Abrahamic sense.
00:14:28.551 --> 00:14:48.533
And I'm talking mainly to even those are Hindus or Sikhs or Buddhists or whatever you may believe in, whatever religion or any spiritual organization for that fact, if you say you believe in a God and you believe that you can show God or reveal God or whatever and everyone has a monopoly over this truth for one reason or the other.
00:14:48.793 --> 00:15:00.653
If you're still seeing God as a 'person' that you need to pray to, that you need to believe in that you need to worship, then I'm sorry, but that God has now been reduced to nothing.
00:15:01.432 --> 00:15:03.653
People are not believing in that God anymore.
00:15:04.322 --> 00:15:16.605
I don't think it's worthy enough to even try to save or resuscitate that God, frankly speaking, we now have to look towards a new way of understanding what reality is, what God really is.
00:15:16.870 --> 00:15:19.360
It's because of this, that mysticism has grown.
00:15:19.360 --> 00:15:34.610
That is why people like Rumi, Kabir Ji, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, or Ramana Maharshi, Ramakrishna, Swami, Vivekananda, why they come into this world and what they've discovered and shared with us is that we don't need dogma or tradition.
00:15:34.910 --> 00:15:36.561
We shouldn't lose tradition.
00:15:37.030 --> 00:15:44.360
I do want to state that because that's very rich history, which we need to embrace and we need to embrace where we've come to.
00:15:44.691 --> 00:15:49.221
So for example, the one thing that I love about Hinduism is that it doesn't erase anything.
00:15:49.798 --> 00:15:53.250
It says this was prior to the truth, but now this is a truth.
00:15:53.280 --> 00:16:02.754
If you look at the Vedas, it's really interesting, you have these beliefs in multiple manifestations of gods and goddesses, and this is the viewpoint.
00:16:03.227 --> 00:16:11.493
Then you come to Vedanta, the end - The Upanishads and they talk about that one underlying principle, that one underlying ultimate reality.
00:16:11.572 --> 00:16:13.822
This is what I believe religion should be.
00:16:13.919 --> 00:16:23.096
It should be an evolution and for that, you do need living masters, living realized beings that would always look to evolve that religion.
00:16:23.383 --> 00:16:28.607
So that's really important and that's why we need to have those people.
00:16:28.607 --> 00:16:32.418
That's why people liked Swami Vivekananda are still remembered.
00:16:32.418 --> 00:16:37.307
Ramana Maharshi is one of the biggest influences today in Advaita Vedanta.
00:16:37.677 --> 00:16:46.748
If you look at the west now, in America, in the UK, a lot of non-duality has come from Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadatta Maharaj.
00:16:47.248 --> 00:16:56.745
Without them, without that evolution of using the language that we use today, we wouldn't be where we are today in terms of understanding Advaita Vedanta.
00:16:57.645 --> 00:17:01.615
They made it so accessible and there are people today who make it accessible.
00:17:01.666 --> 00:17:05.125
What I'm trying to say is that spirituality is growing from these Mystics.
00:17:05.145 --> 00:17:16.470
These Mystics allow us to view spirituality as an evolving way of life instead of being stuck in the past, embrace the past, enjoy the past.
00:17:16.563 --> 00:17:20.913
But remember if it isn't true today, we have to put it aside.
00:17:21.452 --> 00:17:25.353
If we cannot say it's true today, we have to put it aside.
00:17:25.803 --> 00:17:31.720
For example, a lot of things in Hinduism are termed as stories in the Puranas, those are stories.
00:17:31.779 --> 00:17:36.192
They may not have happened, but those stories carry a deeper message.
00:17:36.403 --> 00:17:37.393
We go for the message.
00:17:38.212 --> 00:17:45.819
If you want to go straight for the philosophy, The Upanishads are there, Ashtavakra Gita is there, Ribhu Gita is there, Avadhuta Gita is there.
00:17:46.349 --> 00:17:49.890
All those texts are there for us to read and discover.
00:17:50.192 --> 00:17:53.133
This is really up to us to go into.
00:17:54.123 --> 00:17:56.313
Can God be resuscitated?
00:17:56.313 --> 00:17:57.442
Can we save God?
00:17:58.903 --> 00:18:07.258
I do you believe that God will have to come back into the picture at some point, because this God shaped hole that we have needs to be filled somehow.
00:18:07.657 --> 00:18:16.346
It needs to be filled with what God really is and this God that we're talking about cannot be defined.
00:18:17.276 --> 00:18:18.476
It has no form.
00:18:19.135 --> 00:18:20.425
It has no shape.
00:18:20.935 --> 00:18:21.986
It has no limit.
00:18:22.135 --> 00:18:23.365
It has no bound.
00:18:23.876 --> 00:18:25.474
It has no restriction.
00:18:25.923 --> 00:18:27.243
It has no color.
00:18:27.505 --> 00:18:28.765
It has no image.
00:18:29.433 --> 00:18:30.693
It has no shape.
00:18:31.136 --> 00:18:38.606
Basically we have to use the concept of neti-neti, not this, not this, to get to the point where there is no answer.
00:18:39.057 --> 00:18:41.376
That then is God.
00:18:41.696 --> 00:18:42.737
That is Brahman.
00:18:43.277 --> 00:19:03.281
This is what is according to the texts in The Upanishads, this is what people like Ramana Maharshi have talked about and Nisargadatta Maharaj, the famous non-duality teachers, they have got to that point where they're saying neti-neti, and the ultimate answer is the silence and even beyond the silence.
00:19:03.759 --> 00:19:09.644
God is something that has to be realized as real as this microphone is in front of me.
00:19:10.007 --> 00:19:11.747
That's how real God has to be.
00:19:12.049 --> 00:19:16.309
This has to be realized and therefore religions have to upgrade accordingly.
00:19:16.616 --> 00:19:32.765
The funny thing about this whole thing is, and maybe this is why God is always missed as a reality, because it can be immediately realized, it can be found immediately, it can be discovered right here right now.
00:19:33.095 --> 00:19:35.434
And because of that, it's missed completely.
00:19:36.078 --> 00:19:49.231
Something like Advaita Vedanta is able to show us how we can get to that immediate realization and through different philosophies because it accepts the Maya as a transactional reality.
00:19:49.622 --> 00:20:06.028
So we need a religion which is able to marry up this world that we see this relative world, this transactional world, and then the awareness behind this transactional world, this consciousness that is behind this transactional world.
00:20:06.058 --> 00:20:12.469
Where this transactional world is projected upon that consciousness, yet that consciousness remains untouched, unblemished.
00:20:12.792 --> 00:20:14.173
It's not altered by it.
00:20:14.682 --> 00:20:17.909
It is not affected by it, that pure consciousness.
00:20:18.353 --> 00:20:24.212
That can only be realized, through the concept of, in my opinion, self-inquiry or neti-neti.
00:20:25.259 --> 00:20:30.157
We have to understand that what Maya can never reach is this Ultimate Reality.
00:20:30.188 --> 00:20:37.367
Maya itself, this transactional reality will never be able to reach the Ultimate Reality in terms of it's defining it.
00:20:38.248 --> 00:20:41.188
Therefore no outside agency can approve it.
00:20:41.877 --> 00:20:45.147
When, I mean, outside agency, I mean, both religion and science.
00:20:46.143 --> 00:20:51.393
Both can never reach this Ultimate Reality because we'd be using the apparatus of this being.
00:20:51.873 --> 00:20:54.452
So to do this, we have to transcend this being.
00:20:55.952 --> 00:20:58.383
Therefore we have to find it ourselves.
00:20:59.133 --> 00:21:00.393
What is it within us?
00:21:00.903 --> 00:21:02.913
That is not this body and not this mind.
00:21:04.262 --> 00:21:10.387
Let's just recap what we've gone through because there's a lot we've covered and there's a lot to digest.
00:21:10.688 --> 00:21:23.778
You probably have to listen to this a few times and do ask me questions about this, because it's really important that we have a discussion about this and we can do a question and answer maybe in future episodes.
00:21:23.778 --> 00:21:26.038
I can answer any of the questions that you have.
00:21:26.384 --> 00:21:37.088
With God gone, society will look for other means, that's a fact and unfortunately the direct means right now is consumerism, capitalism.
00:21:37.538 --> 00:21:44.939
We will look to buy our hearts out because if God is infinite, so is our desires for shopping.
00:21:45.116 --> 00:21:47.457
We have to discover God within our own self.
00:21:47.876 --> 00:21:51.797
Before we think about traditional religion.
00:21:52.048 --> 00:21:55.647
Before you accept your religion, first, try to find God within yourself.
00:21:55.768 --> 00:22:02.097
Before you accept a spiritual institution, see if they can make you discover God for yourself.
00:22:02.404 --> 00:22:06.827
This is actually one test that people like Swami Vivekananda also followed.
00:22:07.451 --> 00:22:11.541
The one thing that he asked, Ramakrishna, his guru was.
00:22:11.541 --> 00:22:12.541
'Can you show me God?
00:22:13.251 --> 00:22:14.781
Can God be realized right now?
00:22:15.321 --> 00:22:20.271
And because Ramakrishna Ji said, 'Yes, you can, I can show you God right here.
00:22:20.271 --> 00:22:22.846
Right now.' You need someone like that.
00:22:23.266 --> 00:22:28.939
Someone who is willing to take you there and there's very few of them and they're very hard to find.
00:22:29.326 --> 00:22:31.615
Sometimes they can be right in front of us and we don't know.
00:22:32.596 --> 00:22:41.990
But most of them, they end up being silent after they realized the truth, because they feel that we're not going to let go of our carnal desires.
00:22:42.020 --> 00:22:44.871
We're not going to let go of our ego and our pride.
00:22:44.931 --> 00:22:53.424
We're too invested in that, that we don't really want to know God, but trust me if you know, somebody keep trying to get their attention.
00:22:53.845 --> 00:23:02.682
For example, Zen Masters, you probably have to visit them multiple times, sometimes even years for them to accept you as a student.
00:23:03.432 --> 00:23:15.582
Now that's not because they don't want to give you the truth, they want to, but they want you to be ready for it and it's only ready when your desire for the truth is bigger than the desires for the world.
00:23:16.001 --> 00:23:22.501
When your desires are bigger for the truth, and the desires of the world is less that's when they're ready.
00:23:23.192 --> 00:23:24.602
That's when they know you're ready for it.
00:23:25.771 --> 00:23:38.221
Unfortunately, you now need to find your mystics and your spiritual organizations and the first thing to do is to see if they can show you what God is right now, right here without any fluffy philosophy.
00:23:39.215 --> 00:23:42.155
Without any fluff and airy fairy stuff.
00:23:44.155 --> 00:23:46.615
That direct perception, that's what we need.
00:23:47.346 --> 00:23:49.866
That's if you want to really resuscitate God.
00:23:49.866 --> 00:23:50.166
Yeah.
00:23:51.007 --> 00:24:00.846
And no outside agency can ever prove God, only this inner agency, this inner agent, which is God itself can prove itself.
00:24:01.630 --> 00:24:02.859
It's such a paradox.
00:24:03.000 --> 00:24:09.410
I mean, it's so true and so real for me that it's so hard to define to others.
00:24:09.440 --> 00:24:26.202
I find sometimes I just feel lost in saying it because it's just right here and I'm trying to define something that is right here, but I've gone through this whole big journey to get there and then I know that everyone more or less has to go through the same journey.
00:24:26.782 --> 00:24:33.267
Like I said, we need to just create our inner tools to help us and there are many people that are out there to help us.
00:24:33.529 --> 00:24:39.950
We just have to search for them and I can tell you that there are people there.
00:24:40.067 --> 00:24:43.393
Look for them, but most of all, look within yourself first.
00:24:43.797 --> 00:24:48.267
If anyone tells you that God is out there and not in here, don't go to them.
00:24:49.196 --> 00:24:51.057
They're just going to give you another belief system.
00:24:51.807 --> 00:25:00.626
The one that can say that there is nothing but God within and without that person probably has the truth.
00:25:01.767 --> 00:25:02.886
Just keep on inquiring.
00:25:04.261 --> 00:25:07.471
I hope this episode has been helpful.
00:25:07.471 --> 00:25:16.592
It's been longer than I anticipated, but I really wanted to get some things clear about what I believe in what I think is the truth.
00:25:17.011 --> 00:25:26.821
But I also want you to be open enough to ask me questions now and ask me stuff about what you don't understand and or what you want more clarity over.
00:25:27.301 --> 00:25:35.507
Sometimes I may say something and I'm in the middle of a point and I actually forget what I was trying to say and trying to portray and you may pick up on it.
00:25:35.957 --> 00:25:46.436
Ask that question because it will help not only myself in discovering the answer within me, but also will help maybe others who have the same question.
00:25:47.186 --> 00:25:48.477
Thank you for listening to this.
00:25:48.626 --> 00:25:49.767
I really appreciate it.
00:25:50.126 --> 00:25:57.180
And I hope that you find that God within you, because that God is waiting and has always been waiting.
