00:00:01.379 --> 00:00:10.464
Hello and welcome to the latest episode of The Bearded Mystic Podcast and I'm your host Rahul N Singh.
00:00:10.884 --> 00:00:16.105
Thank you for taking out the time today to either listen or watch this podcast episode.
00:00:17.484 --> 00:00:26.635
So before we get into the episode today, I just want to give a massive thank you to everyone who listened to their last episode.
00:00:27.324 --> 00:00:30.954
Which was about COVID-19 and common sense spirituality.
00:00:31.344 --> 00:00:38.253
I really have appreciated your comments, your shares on Instagram, on Facebook, on TikTok.
00:00:38.323 --> 00:00:45.973
It has been really engaging and I want you to know that if you are speaking on the behalf of science and spirituality.
00:00:46.584 --> 00:00:49.283
Just know that I'm always there to help you.
00:00:49.493 --> 00:01:00.923
The one thing that I have noted, and I do want to address is that I wanted to discuss more about the future spirituality or the spiritual circle or the community.
00:01:01.793 --> 00:01:16.158
If this misinformation continues to grow and spread and what the future will hold for spiritual seekers and spiritual guides and teachers and just the community overall.
00:01:16.158 --> 00:01:20.507
So maybe next month I will dwell on that topic.
00:01:20.878 --> 00:01:30.388
Let me know on social media, if you are interested in knowing what I think the future holds for spiritual seekers and the community at large.
00:01:30.490 --> 00:01:38.290
Today we're going to talk about three Hollywood movies that I have been greatly inspired by, and I've really enjoyed watching them.
00:01:38.710 --> 00:01:43.480
And I want to discuss how they hold deep spiritual truths.
00:01:43.647 --> 00:01:49.628
Now, each one of those movies has something connected between all of them.
00:01:50.287 --> 00:02:06.537
And it's all about knowing reality from the absolute perspective or in Advaita Vedanta, which we refer to as Brahman or is it the reality that is transactional, which is termed as Maya.
00:02:06.608 --> 00:02:09.848
The first movie we will be discussing is interstellar.
00:02:10.147 --> 00:02:14.888
This is directed by Christopher Nolan and he is one of my favorite directors.
00:02:14.888 --> 00:02:16.027
I love his movies.
00:02:16.027 --> 00:02:17.527
I think they make you think.
00:02:17.948 --> 00:02:22.508
There's everything that you need in order to get your mind stimulated.
00:02:22.987 --> 00:02:27.038
I love movies that make us introspect and they add more to your life.
00:02:27.087 --> 00:02:33.177
But getting to interstellar, if you notice in the movie, there's always a reference to 'they'.
00:02:33.687 --> 00:02:40.168
And I really liked this because during the movie, when you watch it for the first time, you kind of think, well, who is 'they'?
00:02:40.168 --> 00:02:41.578
Are they aliens?
00:02:41.668 --> 00:02:44.487
Is it a specific God?
00:02:44.487 --> 00:02:46.307
Or are they deities?
00:02:46.358 --> 00:02:47.548
Who is this 'they'?
00:02:47.751 --> 00:02:52.860
it brings across like an otherworldly presence across the movie.
00:02:53.289 --> 00:03:05.062
Later on we realize that when the character is referring'they', he's actually talking about us and the spiritual truth is it gets rid of the illusory aspect of separation.
00:03:05.483 --> 00:03:11.393
That in fact, you're all interconnected beyond dimensions, beyond time and place and space.
00:03:11.543 --> 00:03:12.893
We're all interconnected.
00:03:12.943 --> 00:03:14.832
We're all made from the same star dust.
00:03:14.855 --> 00:03:18.246
This interconnectedness is what makes us one.
00:03:18.506 --> 00:03:25.669
in this movie, it's hinting towards our oneness and getting rid of the false sense of separation.
00:03:25.699 --> 00:03:40.985
For example, when we look at other people as different to us and therefore, instead of embracing those differences and that diversity, we see it as a point to separate ourselves, but actually that's not what we should be doing in spirituality.
00:03:41.224 --> 00:03:49.284
It's all about embracing other people's differences and diverse aspects and seeing the unity that's underlying everything.
00:03:49.401 --> 00:03:53.021
I really loved the reference today, when really it's about us.
00:03:53.215 --> 00:03:55.705
There is also the scene of infinite dimensions.
00:03:55.705 --> 00:04:04.408
If you remember there's that scene towards the end, where there's a repetition of the image that we can see in multiple ways.
00:04:04.408 --> 00:04:05.699
It's just seems endless.
00:04:06.088 --> 00:04:16.709
This is like in, in Hindu philosophy of Indra's net, or we can say that everything that is happening now, is happening in the future and has happened in the past.
00:04:16.949 --> 00:04:24.848
So this, this aspect of time is discussed here and timing itself again is our manmade concept, right?
00:04:25.019 --> 00:04:31.048
We have created time in terms of how long it takes the earth to go around the sun.
00:04:31.122 --> 00:04:32.351
It's our concept.
00:04:32.721 --> 00:04:35.752
Time is always being about being in the present moment.
00:04:35.922 --> 00:04:39.771
With that we should look at the world in a non-dual way.
00:04:40.857 --> 00:04:47.156
When we look at duality, there is a difference between the time of the past and time of the future, and the time that is right now.
00:04:47.396 --> 00:04:50.257
But in reality, if you look at it, there is only now.
00:04:50.976 --> 00:04:55.927
The time that was in the past has gone, or it's not even present now.
00:04:56.526 --> 00:04:58.237
And the time in the future is not present now.
00:04:58.836 --> 00:05:05.766
What I'm trying to say is time in itself is only in the now .The experience of time is only in the now.
00:05:06.247 --> 00:05:17.882
And again, according to how we understand time, but for the mind is there really time or have we created that veil of illusion of time within our mind.
00:05:18.324 --> 00:05:26.725
But again, this whole thing about infinite dimensions that is in this movie is making us question our understanding of time.
00:05:27.214 --> 00:05:42.019
When we see the bookshelf being knocked, when we're watching the movie in a linear way, we see it as something happening in the future, but actually it was happening in what would be the past, but at the time it was happening in the present.
00:05:42.559 --> 00:05:52.449
If you really understood what I mean by this is time is all in the now and this is something that I believe interstellar was showing us.
00:05:52.651 --> 00:05:58.524
The fourth or the infinite dimension that is mentioned, there's a very beautiful quote in the movie.
00:05:58.574 --> 00:06:06.735
'Love is the one thing that we are capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space.' And that is really true.
00:06:07.245 --> 00:06:13.884
When you think about it, when you're in love with something or someone, there's that thing where time doesn't exist.
00:06:14.416 --> 00:06:16.666
You wonder where did time disappear?
00:06:16.716 --> 00:06:18.576
Our experience of time changes.
00:06:19.387 --> 00:06:33.644
For example, if you're really bored, you literally can see every second going by and you're absolutely not enjoying yourself while when you really enjoying yourself time just goes by, hours go by.
00:06:33.644 --> 00:06:35.444
And you're like, where did the hour go by?
00:06:36.223 --> 00:06:37.923
You are really enjoying yourself.
00:06:38.507 --> 00:06:53.684
Our perspective of time is also illusory according to how we enjoy ourselves and here it's because we love something or in love with someone, or we loving an activity that we're doing and time goes by very fast.
00:06:54.043 --> 00:07:02.244
So again, we've got to understand that is that love is that one thing that can transcend dimensions of time and space.
00:07:02.439 --> 00:07:07.329
Love is the closest thing we can refer to as God or Brahman.
00:07:07.495 --> 00:07:15.685
Without that unconditional love how can we see the infinite number of dimensions that are available to us?
00:07:15.685 --> 00:07:18.514
I don't mean it like in astral projection.
00:07:18.935 --> 00:07:24.581
I just mean it in terms of the layers of reality is seen and perceived.
00:07:25.101 --> 00:07:36.425
One of the important lessons I feel that is in Interstellar is the misuse of land, the misuse of earth and the dire warning that it is showing.
00:07:36.665 --> 00:07:37.654
Now it's very easy.
00:07:37.654 --> 00:07:49.024
A lot of people now are thinking of going to Mars or wherever in the future, they're looking at time-traveling or space travel so they can escape the earth in its impending doom.
00:07:49.278 --> 00:07:52.278
But I think it's more important to solve the issues we have now.
00:07:53.178 --> 00:07:54.319
Now in the moment.
00:07:54.619 --> 00:08:01.699
There's no point in having targets for the future, because think about the amount of damage that is going to happen in those years.
00:08:01.968 --> 00:08:14.000
And right now we know there have been reports of just commit literally last week, about how we are totally misusing the planet and how we are running out of resources and we don't know what the future's going to hold for us.
00:08:14.000 --> 00:08:16.490
It could be disaster for us.
00:08:16.940 --> 00:08:23.420
As a planet, Interstellar also shows us in the movie how we need to appreciate the earth and see its sacredness.
00:08:23.901 --> 00:08:28.430
And by seeing its sacredness, we can enhance its beauty.
00:08:28.798 --> 00:08:34.076
The second film that I want to talk about is Inception.
00:08:35.221 --> 00:08:37.380
Inception is a very interesting movie.
00:08:38.071 --> 00:08:41.100
One that I've probably watched 10, 15 times.
00:08:41.691 --> 00:08:43.081
Massive fan of the movie.
00:08:43.321 --> 00:08:44.850
Again by Christopher Nolan.
00:08:45.541 --> 00:08:51.091
There it shows that life is a blur between the waking state of reality and the dream.
00:08:51.750 --> 00:08:58.990
As human beings, the question is whether we recognize the dream, the illusion or do we wake up to reality.
00:08:59.150 --> 00:09:03.533
How this is emphasized is basically by the main character Cobb.
00:09:03.994 --> 00:09:23.451
Now, Cobb is someone who is invested in going back into the dream to meet his dead wife, there is this connection that he has, and she's always interfering in his subconscious reality, which makes the life of his own and others in danger because of that.
00:09:23.764 --> 00:09:30.442
And because of those memories that he's fixated upon, his memory of his dead wife, it leads to attachment.
00:09:30.741 --> 00:09:34.741
And this attachment leads him to the detachment of reality.
00:09:35.148 --> 00:09:42.110
It's really interesting because underlying that is also showing that our individual reality cannot be trusted.
00:09:42.696 --> 00:09:52.889
The individuality cannot be trusted because of our sense projections, our projection of memory and how memory can interfere in the reality of right now.
00:09:53.535 --> 00:10:02.691
This is really great, how the movie just shows that really in the present reality that we're in, a lot of inference is going on.
00:10:02.961 --> 00:10:08.301
A lot of things are stimulating our reality right now, which may not be occurring.
00:10:08.988 --> 00:10:14.803
It's interesting because even in memory, we can create memories.
00:10:15.083 --> 00:10:18.264
Sometimes it's happened to me where someone says, oh yeah, you were there.
00:10:18.264 --> 00:10:19.494
And they were testing me.
00:10:20.183 --> 00:10:22.644
And I was like, oh yeah, yeah that happened.
00:10:23.283 --> 00:10:25.673
I created a memory out of what they were saying.
00:10:26.504 --> 00:10:32.913
So this is was a sign for me, where I was like, actually I cannot trust my mind because it's going to create that memory.
00:10:34.504 --> 00:10:48.381
One of the beautiful aspects in this movie is how it emphasizes how the dream is neither real nor unreal, meaning our reality.
00:10:49.096 --> 00:10:52.475
The best way to describe this is when you're in a dream.
00:10:53.216 --> 00:10:55.166
There is a pride of lions chasing you.
00:10:55.775 --> 00:10:56.735
You're running fast.
00:10:57.076 --> 00:11:00.225
You can feel your heartbeat and you're sweating because you're running and running.
00:11:00.586 --> 00:11:10.485
And then suddenly you look behind you and you see that a lion is pouncing on to you, but then you wake up from your dream and as you wake up, you're in your bed.
00:11:10.885 --> 00:11:12.306
You're in the comfort of your room.
00:11:13.551 --> 00:11:14.821
But you're sweating.
00:11:15.150 --> 00:11:22.392
You can feel your heart beating really fast, but as you wake up, you realize actually your dream was just a dream.
00:11:22.422 --> 00:11:25.572
It wasn't real, but it felt real when you were in the dream.
00:11:26.422 --> 00:11:35.312
What's interesting is because of that, we realize that the dream wasn't real, but while we were in it, it was real.
00:11:35.662 --> 00:11:37.706
Same thing with our reality right now.
00:11:38.451 --> 00:11:41.721
Right now in the transactional reality, everything seems real.
00:11:42.562 --> 00:11:53.975
But when we connect to the Ultimate Reality, which is Brahman, which is a reality that is beyond time and space, beyond memory, beyond our sense projections.
00:11:54.433 --> 00:11:57.104
That state, which is our real reality.
00:11:57.220 --> 00:12:07.350
When we live in that state of reality, and this is mainly experienced in meditation, we understand that our mind and the reality that it projects is not real.
00:12:09.004 --> 00:12:14.966
But that is only seen from that objective state of reality, which is Brahman, which is formless reality.
00:12:15.416 --> 00:12:24.625
There's a line in the movie, which is again really interesting how it talks about how you land yourself in the middle of a dream and that you never know it's beginning.
00:12:25.316 --> 00:12:27.296
And isn't that true with life itself?
00:12:28.221 --> 00:12:31.392
When you think about it, we don't know when our beginning really was.
00:12:32.152 --> 00:12:34.672
We don't know when at beginning started.
00:12:34.751 --> 00:12:36.432
Can you tell me when you began?
00:12:36.672 --> 00:12:38.621
Can I tell you where Rahul began?
00:12:38.951 --> 00:12:39.701
I really can't.
00:12:39.701 --> 00:13:02.336
I can only tell you from my first memory of myself, where I became conscious of myself, but I must have been conscious before, because there were other people around me that remembered things of my past, that I can't remember., This movie just shows us how we land ourselves in the middle of life and that we don't know what's going to happen in the future.
00:13:03.125 --> 00:13:06.755
Our reality is beyond the past and the future.
00:13:07.908 --> 00:13:14.519
Another thing about the movie, there's a concept in there, we see about the dream within a dream, within a dream.
00:13:15.089 --> 00:13:25.948
And this is actually discussed in Yog Vasistha that you can actually do that, where you're in a dream and you can be dreaming that you're in a dream and the text does go into that.
00:13:26.278 --> 00:13:32.975
And that there's layers to reality, the waking state, the dream state, and the deep sleep state.
00:13:34.806 --> 00:13:38.676
There is something that is aware within us in all those three states.
00:13:39.216 --> 00:13:42.666
And that awareness is the fourth state, which is the Turiya state.
00:13:44.182 --> 00:13:47.312
The next movie that I want to discuss is The Matrix.
00:13:48.298 --> 00:13:51.717
The Matrix is an epic movie.
00:13:52.618 --> 00:14:01.292
And if you want to really understand Vedanta the matrix is a good starting point in itself.
00:14:01.292 --> 00:14:06.602
It could be a text of understanding Maya and Brahman.
00:14:07.533 --> 00:14:08.403
It really is.
00:14:09.003 --> 00:14:13.962
In fact, in the last film, there is a song called Neodammerung.
00:14:14.543 --> 00:14:16.552
I hope I'm pronouncing it correctly.
00:14:16.772 --> 00:14:22.477
But according to the Wachowski siblings, it describes the movie, the whole, the whole trilogy.
00:14:23.567 --> 00:14:32.967
It's basically lines from The Upanishads and I suggest that you take your time to go and listen to that song and experience what it is.
00:14:32.967 --> 00:14:38.682
And I'm sure online, there'd be translations to what the mantras are.
00:14:39.562 --> 00:14:42.142
This movie is just full of amazing quotes.
00:14:42.241 --> 00:14:47.611
Morpheus in the matrix, he says 'something is wrong with this world.
00:14:47.851 --> 00:14:49.381
You've known it all your life.
00:14:49.652 --> 00:14:51.182
You don't know what it is.
00:14:51.662 --> 00:14:53.488
It's like a splinter in your mind...
00:14:54.466 --> 00:15:00.734
driving you mad.' Basically what Morpheus is describing is when you get an existential crisis.
00:15:01.423 --> 00:15:04.442
Where you ask, what is the purpose of my life?
00:15:04.623 --> 00:15:05.312
Who am I?
00:15:05.643 --> 00:15:07.383
Why am I here on this earth?
00:15:08.163 --> 00:15:09.753
What is life all about?
00:15:10.143 --> 00:15:11.072
Is there a God?
00:15:11.072 --> 00:15:12.363
How can I know God?
00:15:12.363 --> 00:15:13.764
How can I know myself?
00:15:14.360 --> 00:15:15.437
It's that one question.
00:15:15.634 --> 00:15:22.533
Once you ask that one question, the whole endeavor is to get to know it and we feel it within our life.
00:15:22.984 --> 00:15:25.474
I remember when I first asked the question, who am I?
00:15:26.254 --> 00:15:28.380
It really played on my mind.
00:15:28.770 --> 00:15:32.392
It really took my whole being.
00:15:33.174 --> 00:15:41.538
It made me feel crazy in fact, that I didn't know who I was and I can relate to that line in The Matrix.
00:15:42.121 --> 00:15:52.855
Again, going into this, Morpheus says to Neo that 'Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you are so sure was real?
00:15:53.566 --> 00:15:55.900
What if you were unable to wake from that dream?
00:15:56.100 --> 00:16:07.014
How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?' If we can link this now, back to Inception, the whole aspect of dream and reality.
00:16:07.267 --> 00:16:15.523
It's talking about the reality of Maya and the reality of Brahman and once we are able to answer this question, this is Brahm Vidya.
00:16:16.184 --> 00:16:20.424
When we get to know the reality of Maya and the reality of Brahman.
00:16:21.011 --> 00:16:27.402
It's really interesting because we can question the dream, but have we ever questioned how we perceive life now?
00:16:28.902 --> 00:16:30.527
Have we ever questioned?
00:16:30.527 --> 00:16:32.746
Why do I feel the things that I feel?
00:16:33.047 --> 00:16:35.476
Why do I sense the things that I sense?
00:16:36.013 --> 00:16:44.283
Why is it that I see a memory different and perceive it differently to my own spouse or my own family members?
00:16:44.922 --> 00:16:52.669
Why is it that someone can get involved in the same accident and yet perceive it in two different ways or multiple different ways?
00:16:52.903 --> 00:16:53.836
It's that question.
00:16:54.184 --> 00:16:58.044
Those questions are making us think about what is the dream world?
00:16:58.294 --> 00:16:58.715
What is?
00:16:58.715 --> 00:16:59.404
Reality?
00:16:59.804 --> 00:17:01.455
Is what we see real?
00:17:02.504 --> 00:17:07.711
Is what we perceive in this world, is this video that you're watching is that real?
00:17:08.428 --> 00:17:09.667
Is that everlasting?
00:17:09.780 --> 00:17:13.921
Morpheus goes further to say'the matrix is everywhere.
00:17:14.431 --> 00:17:15.691
It's all around us.
00:17:15.810 --> 00:17:25.711
Even in this very room, you can see it when you look out of your window and when you turn on your television, you can feel it when you go to work.
00:17:26.310 --> 00:17:27.211
When you go to work.
00:17:28.881 --> 00:17:40.204
When you pay your taxes, the matrix is a world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.' That's Maya.
00:17:40.671 --> 00:17:51.790
The Vedanta explanation from Maya is that this world that we perceive is hiding Brahman, is hiding the Ultimate Reality.
00:17:52.961 --> 00:18:05.686
The Ultimate Reality is there, it's always there, but because we take this world as real, as completely real, definitively real, we never understand that there's a deeper reality.
00:18:05.997 --> 00:18:12.116
We take everything that we see as reality itself, but actually it's not.
00:18:12.604 --> 00:18:16.624
The matrix in this movie is this world is a virtual reality, like a hologram.
00:18:16.902 --> 00:18:27.098
The scriptures, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita really hones in on how we can differentiate the real and the unreal, the changing and the changeless.
00:18:28.358 --> 00:18:33.068
And that's how we differentiate between Brahman and Maya or the transactional reality.
00:18:33.451 --> 00:18:39.271
And this is a good one and I believe in this completely.
00:18:40.194 --> 00:18:52.125
Morpheus again says further in the movie that 'Neo sooner or later, you're going to realize just as I did, there's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.
00:18:53.294 --> 00:18:59.243
This is really interesting because a lot of people, they may say, oh yeah, I know the truth.
00:18:59.273 --> 00:19:00.913
Now I can see the truth.
00:19:00.943 --> 00:19:02.263
I can perceive the Truth.
00:19:03.703 --> 00:19:05.683
But walking it, it's totally different.
00:19:06.523 --> 00:19:16.393
And a lot of people ask me this on TikTok and on Instagram, sometimes people ask me well how can we live in the world knowing it's unreal?
00:19:17.323 --> 00:19:20.633
And how can we remain in that state of Brahman?
00:19:20.732 --> 00:19:27.182
And I always describe this to them that when you're living in the world, you have to see it as real.
00:19:28.292 --> 00:19:34.742
For example, if you lose a lot of money, You got to feel the pain of losing a lot of money.
00:19:34.742 --> 00:19:44.333
You can't turn around and say, well, in, in the state of Brahman, I've not lost anything, then you not dealing with reality and it will only strengthen your ego.
00:19:45.863 --> 00:19:51.563
But I always say that Brahman or the ultimate reality should remain as your background awareness.
00:19:51.863 --> 00:19:58.634
And the reason why I mention it should be your background awareness is because it should always be there in the background.
00:19:59.805 --> 00:20:04.605
And you can then live in the world, without it affecting what's in the background.
00:20:05.375 --> 00:20:10.704
So it's like the screen, that's not affected by the projection of the images in the cinema or in the theater.
00:20:10.968 --> 00:20:17.748
The stage remains as it is, despite what the characters do and what the set design does.
00:20:17.807 --> 00:20:21.968
The stage remains the same when you're in a theater or watching a play.
00:20:22.382 --> 00:20:24.932
The same way as the stage remains the same.
00:20:24.991 --> 00:20:35.164
So does the background awareness of Brahman, which is changeless, which is imageless, colorless, formless, it's the reality that remains.
00:20:35.729 --> 00:20:48.374
You could say the matrix is basically like the characters in the play that come onto the stage and do their thing, or in the movie, the characters in the movie, they play their role.
00:20:48.589 --> 00:20:53.794
The images shown, but the projector screen remains the same.
00:20:53.980 --> 00:20:55.960
That's how we got to see life.
00:20:56.368 --> 00:21:12.888
That's how you're marry the transactional reality and the ultimate reality and how we live in that non-dual state, because if you're going to say that this world is unreal and only Brahman is real and everything I'm perceiving is unreal and I'm not going to deal with it.
00:21:12.949 --> 00:21:14.058
I'm not going to live in it.
00:21:14.088 --> 00:21:15.679
I'm going to get affected by it.
00:21:16.519 --> 00:21:20.298
And I don't want to remain affected by it, that creates duality.
00:21:20.578 --> 00:21:23.769
We've got to find a way to synthesize both of them.
00:21:24.082 --> 00:21:25.922
That's why meditation is important.
00:21:26.152 --> 00:21:37.970
I think you remember there's a scene in the movie where there's a boy bending a spoon, and the boy says to Neo, when Neo asks, how does he bend the spoon?
00:21:39.440 --> 00:21:41.380
The boy says 'there is no spoon'.
00:21:42.319 --> 00:21:52.730
And Neo asks him, 'there is no spoon?' The boy replies,'then you'll see that it is not the spoon that bends.
00:21:53.839 --> 00:22:03.740
It is only yourself.' Again, showing the interconnectedness of the world, of us and the whole of existence.
00:22:04.029 --> 00:22:12.714
When we see that we are all one, we understand that we have a part to play in the way the world runs.
00:22:14.335 --> 00:22:18.055
I have to ask myself constantly, am I adding beauty to the world?
00:22:18.505 --> 00:22:21.744
Or am I adding destruction to the world?
00:22:21.805 --> 00:22:24.295
Am I adding evil to the world?
00:22:24.654 --> 00:22:26.125
Am I harming the world?
00:22:27.204 --> 00:22:29.365
Or am I adding beauty?
00:22:29.515 --> 00:22:30.744
Adding love to the world?
00:22:32.015 --> 00:22:38.684
. This whole thing about 'it is only yourself that bends' again, shows how we all made from the same substance.
00:22:38.807 --> 00:22:44.548
There's a part in the movie, Neo is rescued by Morpheus and there's resistance.
00:22:45.008 --> 00:22:48.268
And he's shown what the matrix really is.
00:22:48.268 --> 00:22:50.451
And Neo cannot take it.
00:22:50.540 --> 00:22:51.300
He rejects it.
00:22:51.300 --> 00:22:51.980
He wants out.
00:22:52.401 --> 00:22:57.161
And when he refuses to believe it, he refuses to believe everything that's been shown to him.
00:22:57.161 --> 00:23:04.330
He refuses to believe that everything that he's been living in life is false and illusory.
00:23:05.020 --> 00:23:07.830
That everything was a matrix, it was played upon him.
00:23:07.830 --> 00:23:10.060
It was a hologram and he couldn't take that.
00:23:10.592 --> 00:23:16.172
As he experiences this, it becomes so intense that he throws up and falls unconscious.
00:23:16.501 --> 00:23:22.986
And that can happen when you experience that the whole world that you were experiencing isn't what it seems to be.
00:23:23.501 --> 00:23:26.231
You literally, I wouldn't say you throw up.
00:23:27.086 --> 00:23:28.707
But you do reject the idea.
00:23:29.426 --> 00:23:50.759
A lot of people, the reason why they cannot accept Advaita Vedanta as the actual philosophy of life is due to this, because it implies that you were unconscious before, it implies that everything you experienced has been false at the Ultimate Reality point of view.
00:23:51.059 --> 00:23:52.690
And a lot of people can't take that.
00:23:53.163 --> 00:24:00.061
They enjoy the fact that there's a duality, even a duality between them and God, because that duality keeps them safe.
00:24:00.723 --> 00:24:02.013
It keeps them secure.
00:24:02.855 --> 00:24:05.134
But if you tell someone that you and God are the same.
00:24:05.606 --> 00:24:06.326
Oh my God.
00:24:06.356 --> 00:24:10.969
It will be disastrous for the mind, but that duality is interesting.
00:24:11.719 --> 00:24:17.419
That duality keeps you being the slave, instead of going towards where the Master is trying to show you.
00:24:18.388 --> 00:24:24.568
This whole journey between Morpheus and Neo in The Matrix is between the preceptor and the disciple.
00:24:24.942 --> 00:24:28.555
The master is constantly telling the disciple to grow.
00:24:29.154 --> 00:24:39.285
And is showing ways how to grow, shows you the difference between the transactional reality and the ultimate reality, between Maya and Br But are we willing to accept that?
00:24:39.694 --> 00:24:43.474
The master never wants the disciple to remain a disciple?
00:24:44.105 --> 00:24:45.515
You can see this in Morpheus.
00:24:45.545 --> 00:24:53.484
He keeps telling Neo, 'you're the One, You're the One.' He's empowering Neo and Neo is rejecting it in the beginning.
00:24:54.095 --> 00:24:59.163
And he doesn't want to be the one, but eventually Neo does trust Morpheus.
00:25:00.242 --> 00:25:08.633
This movie, The Matrix is incredibly beautiful for the fact that it shows us the reality of who we are.
00:25:09.432 --> 00:25:25.613
It shows us how we can step out of the matrix, step out of Maya and perceive things as they really are, and then live accordingly, knowing that all this is going to disappear, all this is going to go one day.
00:25:26.272 --> 00:25:29.383
When I leave this body and mind, it's not going to be there.
00:25:29.660 --> 00:25:35.359
Everything that is experienced is according to the body and the mind, but there's an objective sense of reality.
00:25:35.569 --> 00:25:37.460
There is an ultimate sense of reality.
00:25:38.150 --> 00:25:39.650
And I'm to go towards that.
00:25:39.950 --> 00:25:42.710
That is when knowledge begins.
00:25:42.890 --> 00:25:50.839
And then when you live, it is when you understand that this background awareness, this Brahman is always here always now.
00:25:51.134 --> 00:25:57.134
That's the three movies that I recommend to you to definitely watch if you want to understand Vedanta a bit more.
00:25:57.404 --> 00:26:09.188
There are movies like avatar and star wars and Groundhog day that talks about the subjective sense of reality or the fight between good and evil, of Vedantic concepts.
00:26:09.588 --> 00:26:10.489
Definitely watch them.
00:26:10.489 --> 00:26:19.868
But three movies that I find really enhances my spirituality is Interstellar, Inception and The Matrix.
00:26:20.259 --> 00:26:26.499
Definitely watch them after you've listened to this episode and see if you see things differently now.
00:26:26.857 --> 00:26:28.238
That's the end of the episode.
00:26:28.268 --> 00:26:29.300
But before you go.
00:26:29.618 --> 00:26:35.056
I want to just let you know that I have now set up a Patreon page, which you can sign up to.
00:26:35.625 --> 00:26:43.605
And by signing up to that, and by paying, you know, $5 a month, you'll get access to a few extra things.
00:26:43.965 --> 00:26:47.665
And by the way, you don't have to just be in the U S to sign them to this.
00:26:47.945 --> 00:26:58.208
You can sign up to it with whatever currency you have, and I will put a link to my Patreon page in the show notes and description below.
00:26:59.468 --> 00:27:03.518
Basically by paying$5 a month, I make a commitment to you as well.
00:27:03.679 --> 00:27:08.328
The first commitment is that you will get exclusive podcasts episodes.
00:27:08.509 --> 00:27:15.828
So sometimes in some podcasts that I've published, I've had afterthoughts where I wish I had said something or I could have added something.
00:27:16.459 --> 00:27:24.828
So what I'm going to do now in the future is whenever this happens, I'm going to be sharing it with you and it would be only exclusive on Patreon.
00:27:24.888 --> 00:27:26.858
I will not be publishing it anywhere else.
00:27:27.318 --> 00:27:31.769
The second thing that I'll be doing is a live stream exclusively for you.
00:27:31.868 --> 00:27:33.848
The live stream will happen every month.
00:27:33.949 --> 00:27:37.558
Only you will get the link to that live stream.
00:27:37.798 --> 00:27:39.088
No one else will have that.
00:27:39.088 --> 00:27:40.709
It will not be open to the public.
00:27:41.618 --> 00:27:47.884
Three you'll have exclusive blog posts and articles that I will put up and write.
00:27:48.515 --> 00:27:49.565
That is my commitment.
00:27:49.644 --> 00:27:54.055
I just wanted to let you know that the Patreon page is set up, please sign up to it.
00:27:54.138 --> 00:27:57.659
The reason why I set this up is because I do need support.
00:27:57.929 --> 00:28:00.419
This podcast does have running costs.
00:28:00.568 --> 00:28:10.358
And on top of that, I can tell you my laptop is really struggling right now with the amount of work I do, in terms of the podcast.
00:28:10.749 --> 00:28:13.598
So I do need more equipment, I do need to upgrade?
00:28:13.749 --> 00:28:17.078
By signing up to Patreon, you are helping me do that.
00:28:17.219 --> 00:28:19.798
You can also donate on my blog.
00:28:19.878 --> 00:28:30.259
Every Sunday from August 29th, we will be having podcasts episodes that are dedicated to a scripture or a religious or spiritual text.
00:28:31.249 --> 00:28:34.189
And the first one we're starting with is the Bhagavad Gita.
00:28:34.519 --> 00:28:37.548
And once we're done with the Bhagavad Gita, it would be the Upanishads.
00:28:37.949 --> 00:28:39.659
Thank you very much for listening.
00:28:39.689 --> 00:28:42.419
Thank you for the support that you've given me this week.
00:28:42.449 --> 00:28:54.189
It's been three months since this podcast has begun and I just really want to say a massive thank you to all of you who have supported it, who've listened to the podcast, who follow me on social media.
00:28:54.548 --> 00:28:57.459
